Browsers forum: What do you like/dislike about Internet Explorer 7?

IE7 is my backup browser (I usually use netscape).Do I even need a backup browser? First complaint: When I open IE7, I get a blue screen with the message 'error on page' at the bottom of the screen. Next: I have been unable to find a way to import my favorites/bookmark list from netscape. Third: where is the help button on this baby? Finally, when I go to microsoft's website for answers to any of these questions, I exhaust my patience trying to navigate the labyrinth of avenues for support. Maybe my neophyte status is showing, but I spend far more time trying to fix problems with microsoft software than I do actually using the computer for something constructive (or fun). Whoever said that the PC needs to be as easy to use as a telephone to realize its full potential is on to something.

Where did you find your old favorites list,
and how do you add new favorites to it?

I have Internet Explorer 7 on my laptop; I am assuming that when it was being used for sports scores or math homework it got updated because I don't remember doing it.
It is NOT on my desktop; I have some reservations. Here they are.
I like the back/forward buttons better in IE7. I cannot find history and that bothers me. Sometimes I am researching and need to go back. I just haven't figure out wnere it is hidden.
My husband was aware of it; he was probably the one who updated it. He doesn't explain things very well, so I have learned to learn by doing

I find this software very unstable. It crashes on a regular basis, after just viewing one website. Sure hope they come up with a fix soon.

I find the amount of the complaints here odd.

Slowed all browsing activities down. Felt like I was using dial-up at 14.4. Browsing is back to normal since I got rid of it

In response to your question, what I definitely dislike most is that, intentionally or otherwise, many Websites have not upgraded their compliance and when I started working with IE7, two weeks ago, I found myself blocked out of familiar business sites, with a HTTP 404 error message.
Going to the knowledge-base page, I found that this was already well known to MS and a User Agent String Utility mimicking IE6 was available as a download. It sounded fine but it des not work.
All I could do was to download Netscape but somehow I still get occasional 404 error messages with it too.

Another thing I have noticed with the install of IE7 is that Flash Player no longer works. I cannot open any news video or product demo. I tried to re-download Flash Player but in vain and the new 9.0.28 will not download, just the 9.0.16.

All these features were working fine until I downloaded IE7.
The wretched thing seems so pervasive that I do not know whether to risk uninstalling it or to use the Go-Back feature. I would hate to have to do the latter because of loss of many updates. I wish I had stayed with IE6 a little longer!

What site do you go to for Flash download 9.0.28? I can't seem to find it. Do you have to remove 9.0.16 first? Thanks, wdawes

I could not even download it, because Windows ME is not compatible with IE7. Can Microsoft not make a version for previous Windows versions, and not just the most recent ones? Who knows, after Vista comes out, will everything be made for only it?
Microsoft is a huge company. They make so much money that they "could" provide their most recent OS for free if they desired to do so. Maybe that would help people respect them, instead of thinking that Microsoft is out to get every penny they can from us. This could also make computers a bit less costly as well.

I prefer the my Google tool bar and I hate that IE7 won't let me remove the Google search box, adjust the size of the Address window or put my Google Toolbar next the address window. Also, I can't seem to get the tabs to work like Firefox does.

I haven't noticed any of the performance issues others have shared.

Microsoft and IE 3, 4, 5, 6 don't bother me in the slightest, but IE7 shocked me.

Yes, I do agree that if you use a ton of toolbars and Active Desktop items like me then you should keep IE upgraded for that reason even if you don't use it, but to use the browser itself I found a real task!

I'm running Win2000, so I cannot use IE7, and I sometimes think that's a blessing. Turn away the automatic update and just stick with IE6, trust me.

Works fine for me and calling it a piece of trash is an highly inaccurate description of it. IMHO, Accuracy is a must when discussing software in an open forum such as this.

I think that the problems people have from IE7 can be divided into two main categories and they are:

-Personal bias

-Individual issues arising from however their system reacts to IE7

While IE7 isn't innocent, there's way too many variables to lay full blame on IE7.

As yet it has not crashed. *touches wood* It is very slow at times.

I have a new Dell laptop running Intel Core 2 Duo and XP Pro. I upgraded from IE 6 to IE 7 last week. Also, my home internet connection is FIOS, so I'm connecting at good speed (5mb down).

I don't like it as much as IE 6. I've been suprised to read in this thread that some find it much faster than previous versions and easier to navigate. I have found just the opposite - seems much slower to load pages than IE 6, and fairly confusing to navigate. I may get accustomed to using it, but the slower loading of pages is very frustrating.

I've been a loyal Microsoft and IE user, and have resisted going to Firefox. But this slow loading of IE pages has driven me to give Firefox 2.0 a try.
