Can't access Yahoo.com

Ok, this is the strangest thing I have had happen while online...

All of a sudden on Friday I couldn't access Yahoo.com, where I get my emails.

I can't even access the Yahoo.com home page.

I have:

deleted cookies and temp files
ran all adaware and virus scans
added Yahoo.com to my allow list
sent a ping with 4 sent and 4 returned: 0 lost
had friends send me links and tried to click on them

I have also done 2 system restores and it did not come back.

But, I can use Yahoo messenger just fine.

And, I have talked to someone that lives 2 blocks from me and has the same ISP and she can use it just fine.

I have tried using IE, Crazy Browser and Firefox and get the same result:

The page cannot be displayed.

This is the only site on the web I can't access! How strange!

Any advise aside from doing all those things I mentioned above?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

OH, I use XP w/SP2 and have NOT done any updates for at least 2 weeks.

Open a command window and ...

IPCONFIG /DNSFLUSH

It helped me.

Try this URL

https://login.yahoo.com/config/login_verify2?&.src=ym


Also if you are using Mozilla Firefox and using the extention NoScript you have to tell it to allow

yahoo.com

and

yimg.com

for Yahoo mail to work.

Three checks...

1.) HOSTS file...located at C:\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\etc, open it with Notepad and make sure Yahoo has not been added.

2.) What security software do you have installed? Most have the ability to block websites, so see if Yahoo has been added to the list.

3.) Are you behind a router or gateway? If so, that's another possibility.

In short, since Firefox also failed it's not specifically a browser issue...something is specifically blocking Yahoo system-wide.

P.S. When you did the ping test, what was the IP address displayed and what were the ping times? (It can be an indicator of a blocked connection.)

ok I did the ping test and here are the results.

reply from 216.109.119.112.135: byutes=32 time=55ms til=52

ping statistics for 216.109.119.112.135:
packets sent = 4. received 4. lost = 0 (0% loss)
approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: minimum = 55ms, maximum = 89ms, average = 64ms.

the hosts file doesn't have yahoo in it either. i just run avg and ad-aware for security. Any ideas what else could be wrong? Thank you for the help.

You left out the actual ping command. What did the IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS report?

And what firewall did you use?

FlushDNS info:

C:\Documents and Settings\Tamiw>ipconfig /flushdns

Windows IP Configuration

Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

Firewall is the one that came with XP2, and no updates were done within 2 weeks of this problem starting.

I hope this gives you the info you needed.

In the meantime, until others will check your network outputs, I would like to ask you - are you using paid AVG? (program version 9.0.856)
Could you please check if any process in Task Manager (CTRL + SHIFT + ESC) is using too much CPU?

...you refresh the page ? Try a trace route to www.yahoo.com at the command prompt by using the tracert command. Are you able to complete the trace before the 30 hops are completed, or are there lots of timeouts ?

I Can't access any service of Yahoo

Since kast three days I can't access any service of Yahoo including messenger. I am using Dell laptop with local DSL connection. Searched online used all commands mentioned at Cnet but failed to open Yahoo.

I am using Internet explorer and Google Chrome with Windows XP Pack 3

Please let me know what may i do?
