Best browser for low-configuration PC

Hi to all,

I am a student with a low configuration PC.It is Celeron 266Mhz,64MB ram and 98SE OS.I have Firefox,Opera 9,SeaMonkey,K-meleon and IE.

My problem is that my favourite and default browser Firefox is very slow on my system.It takes around 1+ min(yes,believe it)to load and then to switch between tabs it takes around 15-30 sec.It gives me not-so- pleasant experience but I am addicted to its virtues.
I had read not so good review about Opera's security so I avoid it and same with IE.I have tried Mozilla suite and it was far faster and same is with SeaMonkey(current one)but my main concern is security.
I have Agnitum Outpost wih AVG free 7.1.
Plz tell me some alternative with security and speed.Should I block all the ActiveX,VB and JavaScript from the firewall.
Any other advice would also be deeply appreciated.

You've found the bottleneck. For less than 20 bucks you can solve this. If it's not worth it...

Thank you Bob for your reply but I could not understand what exactly it meant.Bottleneck ?If you meant RAM,yes it is,but then it is why I have to look for some alternative.Moreover other browsers with same system requirement(e.g.Opera 9,Mozilla and SeaMonkey)are far faster.How? I am sorry if I am sounding novice but I confess this.It could also be that there are some hidden settings("tweaks")that I do not know how to do(about:config).
Bob, plz also tell me solution of 20 bucks.If you meant RAM sorry it cost 1000 bucks here.Moreover somebody told me that my processor can't handle it.

You will find Damn Small Linux and such to be faster since the footprint of OS and browser to be smaller. This is widely discussed so I won't write more about that.

Sorry to hear that fixing this issue is not worth it. Here in the USA, memory is cheap. We just add it. If your country doesn't have such for cheap why not go with what works for you? You wrote "Opera 9,Mozilla and SeaMonkey)are far faster." so I see you've found a workaround.

Thanks Bob but my qs still stands that am I safe without Firefox OR how can I be ?
I was earlier badly infected by adwares,spywares and trojans.Thus this concern(Though now I have Spybot,Adaware and Super but even then sometimes it behaves weird).I have seen Firefox working.

In that discussion the question is pretty close to yours. My answer is that there is no MAGIC SHIELD that can protect a PC from an owner that does dangerous things. I think that discussion covers this issue in depth.

I am really glad that I am being answered by an expert who is equally concern and polite.Thanks again.
But I could not understand what you meant by "dangerous things".I do not download everything and read all the reviews,system requirements,instructions,release notes before installing anything on my system.
I know I have a weak machine but I love it and thus try to take as much care as possible.

Let's list a few dangerous things?

Many online poker softwares, limeware, most peer to peer activity and installing pirated software.

While none my break your hardware, it can cause time lost as you have to wipe out the machine to reload the OS.

Opera

Opera actually has better security than Firefox, but Firefox is way more compatible. It's up to you.
