How can I get windows 98SE to sonnect to my network?

Hello everyone, I have an old Dell Dimension 8100 that originally came with Windows 98 Second Edition. It had been upgraded to XP when I got it and networking worked perfectly. After I got it, I downgraded back to Windows 98 SE for use with DOS gaming. Since downgrading I have had trouble with getting Windows 98 to use it's integrated 3com 3c920 card for a network connection. I installed the original dell driver that came with it. Device manager says that the device is working properly, but when I plug the ethernet cable into my network, nothing happens. It may also be important to note that the network activity indicator does not appear in the system tray weather the cable is plugged in or not. It can't be the router because It worked fine when WinXp was on this computer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
