Windows 95/98 forum: Windows 95 Hard Drive help!

I read your post but didn't find where you used the old install methods.

Don't take this wrong but installing this old OS is not that simple for today's users. Tell more about how you booted your dos diskette and the commands you used to get the HDD ready and then how from dos you began the 95 install.

Well I have a boot CD of windows 95 that I've been using to do fdisk etc. The Hard drive is 160 gigabyte and each time i've deleted and re created a partition it just uses the whole hard drive, but I've read that DOS can't see Linux formatting so I think it needs to be reformatted to FAT or whatever. the "ultimate boot cd" is found at http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
I used that to apparently wipe the hard drive but i still couldn't format the hard drive after partitioning.

basically when booting with the windows 95 cd all i do is go into fdisk, delete the only (visible) partition, create a new one (i've read that his should make it work regardless if linux was on it), then restart as it tells me to, and then attempt to use "format C: /s" which is supposed to format and save the system files to the hard drive, it then asks me it i want to erase everything and format and stuff and i say yes, and it instantly replies "invalid parameters from device driver" (i've read this means that like the first head on the drive isn't the usual or something). Anyway, I bought the internal hard drive new and all i've done is install Ubuntu Linux and then all the partitioning etc. to try to replace linux. hopefully this answers your questions...thanks for the help

So is 98 new enough to be able to install? I have a boot cd for that too, should i try that out? Or am I doomed? What can I do?

I actually remembered its only 60 gigs rather than a hundred 60.... my bad. BUT, I just repartitioned it using a windows 98 cd that i think may be modified because it asked if the disk was larger than 512 mb and I said yes, then after recreating the partition i did the format c: /s command and it's half way through right now... so i'll let you know what happens.

And I'm a computer science major so i'm just messing around with computers and stuff. I'll probably use it as my dummy laptop etc. I got it second hand all together so yeah. Also, I want to play dos games! That is much harder to do in vista etc. (even with DOSBOX).

So ms-dos booted from hard drive successfully, so I think that's all i need. Thanks so much for your prompt help!
