How old? What are the system requirements? Is Windows 98 on the list of supported OS'es? Anything special in the readme.txt?

A. Unknown exception occurred. Something has gone terribly wrong. Attempting to crash gracefully. Hopefully, a file called_crash.sav will have been saved.

Simply your game program giving you a warning, but what the problem is could be anything.

B. then the program performs an illegal operation. then the computer freezes.

1. I believe the system is giving you a reason for the error, not the program. However, if the entire error for the illegal operation fault isn't shown -- and we be informed of its content, there is going to be little help forthcoming.

2. Please read the following Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) articles to obtain an understanding of what I'm trying to convey -- for your benefit:

a. "How to Determine the Source of a File Error (Q304590)."

b. "Troubleshooting Insufficient Memory Errors (Q112676)."

Note: When an error message includes Memory Addresses, Registers, or Stackdumps, these are generally unimportant (certainly a lot less than the detailed error) and not necessary to report. Wastes your time and effort, forum space, and our reading it/them.

c. "Windows 98 and Windows Me Error Message Resource Center (Q315854)."

d. "Microsoft Windows 98 Troubleshooting."
