My CD-rom will not recognise New Cd's

My CD-rom will not recognise New empty Cd's, as well as some other formatted program CD.s which I created some time ago when my CD-rom worked well! I own a compac presario with Windows 98 se operating system! I recently fully restored My PC to factory condition, but am now unable to format new CD's as well as being unable to read some others! Any info will be appriciated! Thank you

98 does that.

Add some CD recording software and it should start working again.

-> Remember that 98 did not come with native CDR support.
