need some help for my PC

hi friends,

I have a PC with the following configuraiton..

OS : MS Win 98
Second edition
4.10.2222A

Processor : Intel(r) Celeron(tm)
RAM : 63 MB

I have not yet checked if more slots are available for RAM...but even if there is can i upgrade it to Win XP ??

hope the above info. is sufficient ?

- does it have a CD-drive?
- what is your total and free disc space?

The minimum RAM for XP, in practice, is 512 MB. 256 MB might do but will have a bad performance.
The minimum hard disc space, in practice, and after using Windows update for a few years, is 15 MB.

If I were you I wouldn't buy a license for Windows XP. You'll be able to find a secondhand machine with a better performance including XP for far less, if not free.

ya it has a CD drive...a CD writer

total dics space : 8 GB
C drive has free space of : 2.37 GB
D drive has free space of : 2.04 GB

well i want to avoid buying another desktop as long as this works....personal matter !!

Processor speed is : 500 MHz

RAM : 64 MB SD RAM (there is extra slot for RAM)

Now can you answer my basic & original question ......

CAN I UPGRADE THIS SYSTEM TO XP Professional ??

P.S- If you want any more info. dont feel shy !!

Yes, you can physically upgrade to XP ...

as long as you get additional RAM and are willing to have a system that is no faster and quite probably slower than the same machine with Win 9X despite the additional RAM.

XP is considerably more involved than the rather simple hybrid Win 9X.

Now, if you do upgrade you may or may not have full functionality depending on whether you have or can locate drivers for XP for your specific network card, modem, video card, printer, scanner, etc.

I would advice at least 15 GB hard disk space. My Windows folder, after nearly 3 years use, is 6.26 GB. Then there is Program Files, profiles and the swap file. And of course your own data. It wouldn't fit.

And it's far from sure that your memory can be expanded to 512 MB. It might well be 2*64 = 128 MB max. Check the specs of your motherboard.
