Windows 95/98 forum: slow downloads

1. The connection speed (right click on the connection in the system tray, as far as I remember).
2. The size of a certain download file (in kB or MB, as shown while downloading)
3. The time it takes to download that file (in minutes:seconds).
And tell what you download from what site.

Then we'll do some calculations.

14 megabytes (MB) in 61 minutes worked out to 38.8 or so kilobits per second which is par for dialup modems. There is some overheard to moving the 14 MB such as packet headers, checksums, retries so my calculation could be low so I see no reason to fix anything here.

Your connection speed may be much higher than 38.8 so don't try to fix anything.

I rebuilt a couple of Dell PC's for friends.
DX-2, 66mhz, 32mb ram, 1mb video, 56k modem.
Ran well! Newer PC's could not do better except for Video (4mb Vram).
