Windows 95/98 forum: hopeless gateway?

hopeless gateway?

ok heres the deal. i have an older gateway with a quantum fireball 8.4 gig hard drive. i recently due too a virus had too reformat the hard drive. upon completion of doing so i went back and checked to make sure that it worked. ok heres the fun part. when i was finished i looked at the system properties and oh god. 1.99 gig hard drive..... or so windows 98 says. now if anyone has any idea what would cause this to occur, and how to correct the problem. i would greatly appreciate any input. hope some one can help a brotha out. thanks frustrated gateway owner.

Although you don't tell what you have done exactly, I suppose you did a FDISK and answered NO to the (first) question about 'large disk support'. Any disk above 2 Gb is considered large by FDISK, and if you say you don't want it, you get a small one, as ordered.

You could start all over with fdisk, deleting the current 2 Gb partition and make a new partition of 8 Gb. Or you could use fdisk to make a new 6 gB partition (which will become d:, if you do everything correctly) next to the current 2 Gb, on the part of the hd that's still empty now.
