Is installing Ubuntu using Wubi, that bad ?

Good evening,

So I've been using Ubuntu, next to Windows, as I installed it using Wubi. But after some researches, I noticed that installing it using a pen drive, therefore installing the ISO, is better, while using Wubi makes it slower and worse. Is it really so ?

I have an Hp Mini 311-1000.
1.6GHz Intel Atom
894MB Ram (Still planning to upgrade the RAM, soon.)


So, is it necessary that I reinstall it ? Am I going to have better performance considering that the computer is quite "weak" ?

I'd run it off the USB for now. This is the first I've read where it's slower or "bad"!

I think choices are great. Some folk don't like having choices.

Pen is potentially dangerous

Pendrives were never meant to run operating systems. In the past I've had a pendrive completely fail while being used on my home server 24/7. Wubi also has reliability problems; if Windows won't start up, it will cause Ubuntu not to be able to start up either.

The best option in terms of reliability is to do a proper dual-boot installation of Ubuntu alongside Windows.

Which is what the Wubi installer does and is usually ok..but depending upon the system can create some instabilities. I have run Ubuntu for years as a dual boot system with very few issues and the last load, against a Win 7 L/T was done using the Wubi installer, that was done a year and a half ago and hums along very happily.

I have not heard such, but i have been victim of this when i installed ubuntu 12.04 on my hp compaq nc 6220 sporting 2gig ram and 1.74 AMD dual core. it has become extreamly slow and unresponsive in both os systems also when installing with wubi you can get faults where the language packs don't fully expand and the grub kernel system becomes very fragmented over time. if you are wishing to reinstall i would purchase a disk from them or burn the iso straight to a disk and install that way bypassing these problems.

Those faults are usually

When there is some hardware issue. I've seen that happen on overheated CPUs and bad ram. Once I was able to set the CPU L2 cache to disabled and the owner was able to limp along till they could repair the machine.
