Cant get into linux.

I run Windows XP on a eMachines T1100 with a 1 GHz Intel celeron. I recently partitioned off 20GB of my 120GB HD using partition magic specifically for Linux. I then dowloaded Mandrake 10 and installed it onto that partition. but when i boot I am presented with these options:
linux
263-7
2425-2
failsafe
windows
floppy
I am happy to say that i didnt compromise my windows installation like i thought i would, but when i try to enter linux, alll i get is a black screen. And what are those numbers? Can anyone help?

When I got the 3 CD set of Mandrake 10, I let it do the partition resize took it's install defaults. PM was not used.

Maybe you can edit the boot menu, remove the partitions that have Linux and the numbers, then just install mandrake again, but don't fiddle with PM?

Can this machine run MD10?

It's either some odd incompatibility, a video setting or other.

These are fun to look into, but for now try a LIVE CD version of linux like KNOPPIX or other. Do they work?

Those numbers appear to be kernel versions: one is 2.6.3-7 and the other is 2.4.25-2.

Try selecting one of those number choices. This may be Mandrakes way of asking you which kernel to boot.
