Advice on web host, please

Hi

I'm needing a host for my website. I will be making a website for my animation and illustration portfolio. I did the math and I wont be needing more than 500mb of space. I did read on this site that free hosting will really slow down my load times for images and movies. Understandably I need images and animation to load at a decent speed, so i guess that's out.

Of course i'm the epitome of a starving artist so i have very little free money setting around. So does anyone have advice on a decent host at a good cost?

There are plenty of good hosts out there that give you more space than you've mentioned and cost less than 10$ a month for shared hosting. You could check out Hostgator.com, Bluehost.com, Dhruvahosting.com, Fatcow.com and many more.

Just don't purchase a plan because it says "unlimited web space and bandwidth", because there's not such thing as "unlimited". It just means until they think you've used enough.

I suggest you compare the top hosting providers! I found a good site with hosting information, reviews, coupon codes and more. Take a look at webhostingmadness.com.

for those who cannot design/code themselves. It hosted through them as well, I believe. If you're not savvy in design, coding and/or SEO, it wouldn't be a bad solution to look into. Especially since you've stated it's just a portfolio.

You can try this web host to host a website at low cost www.Thewebpole.com . You have different plans to choose. I think economy plan will suit you.

I can relate to your unease with free hosting. I have had a very unpleasant experience when i went for a free web hosting provider. It was just two months ago when i heard about it and decided to check it out but was totally let down by the kind of speed and overall service i was getting. So, i discontinued with them and promised myself to never go for a free web hosting company as the don't ever prove to be of any value. Now, just 2 months back i had used GoWEb.de for hosting my website. I am satisfied by their speed and overall service. Now, i want to get another of my website to be online. Hope u found this useful.
