Creating a website from scratch - advice please

Few questions?

Do I register my domain at register.com or godaddy.com

Which is better?
Why?

I am going with wordpress for blog, would godaddy be the way to go?

Doesn't really matter where you register, pick the cheaper one.

As for using Godaddy to host Wordpress, I'd advice against it. I built one client's WP site there and first, all was well. Only days into it, without any further changes on my end, the site got totally slow and Godaddy blamed it on the site. I researched back then and found plenty of other complaints about the same issue.

you can register the domain with pretty much anyone you want. I get mine through the WWD reseller at Domains at Retail ( http://www.domainsatretail.com ). It's all pretty much going to be like 10 dollars for the year with a .com and they all will do what you want.

Only thing to think about is if you want private registration (it hides your info on whois listings). This may cost extra.

As for wordpress, just make sure you buy Linux hosting - shared hosting should be fine. Number of hosts do well with wordpress, and sometime it really is the luck of what server you get put on with shared hosting.

I usually do some reading at Web Hosting Geeks ( http://webhostinggeeks.com ) and Affordable shared hosting ( http://www.affordablesharedhosting.com/ ) to get some reviews and ideas on who to go with. Hostgator is usually highly recommended as well.

I use godaddy.com, namecheap.com, directnic.com and there are others like enom.com etc

It's really just about if you can get it cheaper etc and which is more trustworthy (hence why I recommend the ones I've listed above)
