Domain name expired and resold. Advice on getting it back?

Hi all,

I let my domain name (a version of my personal name) expire this year because I am a full time volunteer in a foreign country living on very little and I do not need the domain for any real reason at the moment.

Maybe I shouldn't have done that. A company bought mypersonalname.com and is hosting a garbage page on it.

I don't want to rebuy it now, but I may want to do so in the next year. Do companies that snatch up expiring domains of little value usually hold onto them just for a year, or do you think they'll hold it?

Should I pay to bid on the name? If so, what's the cheapest service for this?

It really depends on the company

Some will hold it for a year and most will hold it for longer.

If you did bid on it, you'll probably end up paying significantly more for it. This is probably not what you want. You can see if you can bid through your registrar or through whoever they registered the domain with.

If it was me, I'd find another domain name.

my advice to you would be to find a new domain name, its more then likely they would hold it for longer but who knows really. In the end if you bid as the previous poster stated you will end up paying way to much.
