Up to date 1and1 customer comments and info

I see a thread on here for 1and1 comments and reviews, but its a bit dated. Like to hear from you if you have any recent comments on 1and1 domain hosting and registration.

Now to my part. I've used 1and1 as my registrar for over 100 domains for the last 3 years or so. In that time everything has been good: easy domain purchase and management which is what I wanted.

But I've had my first problems with domain name server pointing, and its been a nightmare for 3 weeks now. 5 emails and a call to their tech support every two days and the result is nothing. Can't get past first level support. I'm told everything will be corrected promptly but nothing happens. To say the least I am very disappointed with the tech support service.

I don't want or need any further problems, so unless I can get the current problem rectified promptly I will be looking for another registrar to port my domains to as they come up for renewal.

Just a caution to anyone thinking of using 1and1.

1and1 has the absolute worst customer service I've ever experienced. Long story short, they signed me up for a 1 year contract without my knowledge and after my explicitly telling the CS rep I spoke with while I was signing up that I wanted a monthly plan. Instead of trying to sort our this mistake, they sent my account to a collections agency for the fees incurred by my closing my account "early". I am currently fighting this, but I have to say, the CS reps AND MANAGERS are ridiculously rude and callous. They very clearly don't care at all about customer satisfaction or retention - I can tell you that I will NEVER use them again. I absolutely do not recommend 1and1 to anyone - it's just not worth it. There are better services out there that require much less hassle.

I always research companies online before signing up with them. I'm glad I found these forum posts on 1and1. I almost made the unfortunate decision to buy a web-hosting account with them. Two other companies with poor service and lousy hosting tools are Ipower.com and StartLogic.com. Interestingly enough, they are sister companies. They even share the same building. When I initially called 1and1 before I could get to a computer to conduct research, the sales line was answered by a foreign call center agent who barely spoke english and had a thick accent. I hung up, instantly, when I heard such nonsense. If this company (and, others like them) are so cheap, that they cannot afford to hire agents who have a good english language skills, then, they will probably also skimp on website building tools, backup servers, etc. After all, they are in this to make a profit. If they have happy customers, then, that only means that they haven't cut enough corners. Eventually, consumers will catch on. Then, these lousy web-hosting companies will go broke. I can't wait...
