png or jpeg?

i am trying to start a web page with alot images. which should i use png or jpeg? should all the images be in the same format?

I would go with JPEG if you have pictures you want to show, like for a photo gallery for example. Use thumbnails though so it doesn't take too long to load. For regular pictures like the header or other things, I would use GIF because they are smaller and load faster. If you need a picture with a transparent background (could use GIF) but good quality, then use PNG because JPEG doesn't allow you to have a transparent background.

Really depends on who is going to be visiting your site. I like Jpeg because you tend to get better quality but they don't load as quickly. If your viewers are using cable or DSL it doesn't really matter becuase the pictures will load almost instantly anyways. but if you or your viewers are using dialup then I would go with png. Png is so much better than gif. gif=low quality.

Gif does not always mean low-quality. It all depends on how you use it. If you use a gif for a small image that is mostly flat colors (like a logo) then the quality will actually be better than the quality you'd get from a jpeg because you wouldn't see any compression around the edges. Personally, I use pngs when importing into flash, (you should not import jpegs into flash because flash compresses all the images itself, so you'd have double-compression) and I use gifs in my html documents being displayed by the web browser.
