Windows Explorer has encountered a problem

When I use windows explorer in windows xp I get the following message, Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to be closed.
Error Signature
AppName explorer.exe AppVer 6.0.2900.2180
ModName shell32.dll

I have tried running Norton win doctor but that did not fix the problem.

How can I fix the problem?

This sounds suspiciously like infestation of some sort, make sure your anti-virus and spyware systems are up to date, then download Ewido, you can get the 3.5 version from www.ewido.net/en or the 4.0.0.172b from [url]www.ewido.net/en/download/[/ur/] - the last is a beta version, so you takes you choice, load it and update it if necessary then log off the 'net.

Reboot to safe mode and run the programmes, delete all they find, then reboot to normal mode, try IE again, if it still doesn't work, back up ALL the data on your machine such as .doc files and e-mails, don't bother about the programmes, you can reload those if necessary, reboot and do a repair install, that should correct any other problems, and if any data has been accidentally wiped, well you've got the backups.

By the way sp_100, the link you gave was corrupted or something, anyway it doesn't work.

AdAware Personal SE, Spybot, etc.

All are good - run several. Problem is, a .dll file once infected is usually damaged, You may get away with an Repair install, but if your current install is more than 2 yrs old it's not worth it - Good excuse for a clean state.
And XP works so well on a fresh install!!

Possibly Software?

I saw that message and Trend Micro software was the problem--be sure that some other software is not working against another. Sence I took it out--several monthes ago--computor working fine and there is NO spyware or infestions.

whenever I open My Videos with real player SP I get error message:
Windows explorer has encountered a problem and must close
