Copy of Windows did not pass genuine Windows validation?

My PC is Windows XP Pro 32 bit SP3, CPU Intel Core i3 540 @ 3.07GHz.Cannot get rid of message"You may be victim of counterfeiting. This copy of Windows did not pass genuine Windows validation"Then there is displayed small window telling me to ask for genuine Microsoft software? As well regular messages keep coming up with similar warnings and at start up PC will not do my personal settings until I click on either the link to fix this problem now ,or fix it later? To fix it now takes me to a whole set of windows relating to which computers & operating systems I would like to upgrade to at Microsoft shopping.
My OS is legitimate & has been running for a lot of years with the automatic updates on, & no problems. What could have brought this on after all this time? When the links say at one point to register my system, it does not give me anywhere to enter the ticket registration numbers on my casing either?Any ideas about what to do if possible?
I also now cannot keep my Windows "bliss"desktop background displayed. It just keeps changing back to the black "none" background all the time? Could this all be connected or just a coincidence? There have not been any viruses or malware detected as I run checks regularly with Malwarebytes and now Superantispyware and I have AVG Internet Security as my firewall as well.
