Did you ever look at Device Manager? I've asked twice but never saw an answer.
Regarding Bob's post about Norton, I looked at that link, but the Norton Security Suite as supplied by Comcast was not mentioned there. I've been using that same software from Comcast for the last 15 months, and I don't have any of the problems you've reported. I've suspected you have a driver problem from the beginning, but if you're not going to look at Device Manager, we may never know.
I'm sorry about your problems, but you have to understand that there are BILLIONS of computer instructions in Windows so to say that we're looking for a needle in a haystack here is a gross understatement. Since you have no backup, don't have install or recovery discs, and are unable to take your computer to the shop, you're unable to do what is usually needed to recover from your problems like the vast majority of folks do. I hope this has taught you the need to avail yourself of the ounce of prevention in the future because you're certainly into the painful pound of cure now.
