Windows XP forum: Font size too small

Font size too small

This morning I turned on my computer and all objects and text were so tiny I can hardly read anything. I use Windows XP. I've seen the temporary solutions for increasing size, such as using the mouse wheel, but I'd to restore the computer to normal size everywhere rather than tinkering with each web page as I go along. I tried to increase the screen resolution in the control panel but it's already set to max size: 1920 by 1080 pixels.

If you want things bigger permanently, you need to go to the Appearence applet of the Control Panel. As you seem to be aware, there're other ways to make things larger like CTRL+ in browsers, but for permanent changes, you need to use the Control Panel.

Thank you. I set it to extra large fonts in display. That's an improvement.

But I'd like to know what caused this problem. Did I hit the wrong button somewhere? Will I just have to live with this annoyance as long as I use the computer? Is buying a new computer the only real solution?

As wpgwpg said above, the higher the resolution, the smaller the print. So try to lower the resolution in stead of maximizing it.

Thanks very much to both of you. I think I've got it pretty much restored to the old normal font. When the problem started the resolution was set at 1920x1080 pixels. I lowered it to 1280x1024 and things look much better. Is there a standard ideal resolution?

On a CRT the ideal resolution (up to the maximum supported by your video card) is the one that you like most, given the screen size, your sight and the viewing distance.

On a LCD the ideal resolution is the native one. That's in the specifications.
