Windows XP forum: Unable to run defrag

Unable to run defrag

I have tried to run disk defrag but every time I do it I get a error saying cheeks is scheduled to run. I have tried running chkdsk /f and chkdsk / r but still get the same it says do I want to run it next time it reboots but I cn put in yes or no and nothing happens....any suggestions

If you reply YES and then reboot, does it run?

If not, then try booting to the Command Prompt (by hitting F8 about once a second when you power on) and give it a try there. If neither works, you'll need to get a bootable disc with something like Ubuntu, UBCD, or a Windows 7 repair disc and run chkdsk from that.

Tried Stopping "Cheeks" From Starting?

It's not clear what "cheeks" is, but if it's a standard program which runs at startup, you might try opening "msconfig" from Start-Run, then UNCHECK the Cheeks program..
