C: getting full

I have an old IBM desktop which has 140gb hard drive, when I check the properties it shows over 80 used space but I have cleared virtually everything off it. I have used a utility which analyses the disk and that only showed 24 gb worth of data. Any ideas what the rest could be made up of. I am running XP.......thanks

Download Treesize

Treesize is a free utility you can download, and it'll show you every last detail about what's on your hard drive. I don't know if you've changed your setup to show hidden files and folders, but that's one possibility. Get Treesize and you'll see for certain.

Hi thanks for the info, I have downloaded this and it is only showing around 24 gb but when I look at c: properties it shows over 80 gb

Updates?

If you've updated XP regularly those updates over the years can take up a ton of space. In Explorer look in the C:\Windows folder for $NT . . . type folders.

So I have delete all th $nt files which were just over 1 gb but it still shows 80 gb used in properties, when I run tree side it shows the c: as around 24 gb and when I manually add up all the folder sizes in c: it seem about 24 gb so is there something that could be corrupt on the drive or something on there that is not showing.
