No drag or drop on desktop or in mydocs and no restore etc

I have tried restore however after going through the process I am told that it could not be done. I have tried going back 6 months. Also my drag and drop function is not working. And ... i can't analyse/defrag and I have 30 % disc space. I am wondering if I have wiped some functions in the add/ remove, control panel ... I did have a bit of a cleanup and I remember being advised that removing some 'things' may affect other applications. I just made an error typing this out (my cursor moved to another spot w/o me noticing) and I could not drag the text to the correct spot after highlighting.
I still have my original version of word 2007. If I was to reload would I lose everything in my docs? Help please.

Why would you lose your docs?

Wouldn't you like everyone have copies on some memory stick, DropBox or some other place? Hard drives fail all the time, a virus or some glitch so everyone knows to be ready.
