Can't locate slave drive after reinstall of xp

I run windows xp on my home maching (dell vostro 200). I added a slave drive to back up data and hold extra files. Everything was fine until I got a virus. So, i backed up my data on the slave drive and re-installed xp. Now, I can't find my slave drive. I've checked the connections and have run driver detective, and I can't find it anywhere.

How can I get to this drive?

XP does not see drives over 127GB and a fresh install without the drivers and service packs could be unsettling for those that see the drive vanish.

Given the story and I have to take your word, XP will do that. Update, add drivers and if you are lucky, the drive will show again.

DO NOT BEGIN DATA RECOVERY WITH JUST XP! I've seen folk do that and remove all chances of getting the drive contents back.

still looking for hard drive

It's old xp. Probably 2007-08. I've updated everything I can find, as far as I know. I know more now, though. The hard drive (40 gig) shows up on the boot menu as the second hard disk (-SCSI-0 : WDC WD400EB-11CPFO).

I downloaded what I thought was the driver, but I didn't think hard drives needed drivers.

Still it's not showing up under My Computer or in Disk Management.

I also don't think it's technically a slave. I had it powered in series with the C-drive, but it is connected to the motherboard via it's own connection.

other ideas?

No, it doesn't. I see it in the boot menu but not in disk management.

The boot menu is a text file.

And not an indication the drive is there. Is there more to this story such as some linux on that drive?

For not I'd see if the drive is listed in the BIOS. And I hope since you and this PC are old friends that you can check to see if the Second IDE port is enabled.
