I need help removing multiple OS's from my laptop

Okay so basically I had my laptop for a few years and I somehow got a virus on my computer and I couldn't access any of my files or remove it so I installed another version of Windows on my laptop. I let my brother (who says he is pretty tech savvy) monitor it while I went about my business. When I got my computer back there were two and a half (I say half because I didn't allow the last one to finish installing) versions of windows on my computer. I found the version that has all of my files etc. on it (Windows.0) and I would like to remove the others. I would like to say that I am not a complete idiot when it comes to computers but I'm no genius either so I may require some explaining. Here is the boot.ini:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS.0="Windows XP Media Center Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS.3="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Media Center Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
Now I would also like to mention that in C:\ there is one other OS not listed in the boot.ini which is C:\WINDOWS. If anyone could help me remove them I would be forever thankful as I am just about out of room on my hard drive thanks to these extra OS's.
P.S. I did read that if you just delete the files (EX: C:\WINDOWS) it would remove them but when I went to do so they all gave me different errors, like "access is denied", or "it is being used by another person or program". Now for the record in all I have C:\WINDOWS , C:\WINDOWS.0 (the one I am using), C:\WINDOWS.1 , C:\WINDOWS.2 , and C:\WINDOWS.3. Like I said any help is appreciated.
