Windows XP forum: XP PRO/ActiveX problem. Can anyone help?

ActiveX is more commonly known as an "Internet Explorer" component or add-on so can you please tell more about this Word 2003 problem with ActiveX?

What ActiveX add-ons are installed in this Word and why is it causing problems?

I DO NOT KNOW WHICH ADD-ONS ARE INSTALLED SINCE THIS IS THE FIRST EXPERIENCE I HAVE HAD WITH IT, THEREFORE I DO NOT KNOW WHY IT IS CAUSING PROBLEMS.

While I've seen this on Internet Explorer and addons, the clues so far are too slim to go much further. Ask your teachers for guidance next.

I already have ask the teachers and the tech support at the university and Microsoft tech support, and no one has a solution, but thanks anyway.

You keep telling more and more.

For example some security suites disable ActiveX because of the security issues. Your posts don't have enough detail for me to point at the antivirus. Keep writing.

It is not an anti virus issue or a malware issue that I can pin down. I don't know what other info I can provide for you to use for analysis. When i enter the tutorial in my course I press the practice in word button and I get a message that tells me that ActiveX could be installed, and it gives me suggestions for resolution, none of which solve the issue.

You didn't share the EXACT WORDS of the error so everyone has to guess what the error message was.

And there again, you are guessing it's not this or that yet I'm finding the antivirus to matter. That is it's antiphishing component depending on the title has caused a similar message.

But I see you are electing not to share the message, tell what antivirus and so we are left to wait to see if you will share details. I'll wait but I fear the best option may be for you to find a guru at the school and let them loose on the machine.

1. You write "It tells me that ActiveX could be installed." That's nice. Now what's your problem?
2. ActiveX is not something to be installed. It's not a program, it's a TYPE of program. So all we know at the moment is that ONE SPECIFIC ActiveX program can be installed.
3. Another (much used) ActiveX program is the one installed by Windows Update. Does Windows update work if (in Internet Explorer) you go to Tools>Windows Update?
4. By the way: what browser are you using to view that course and press that button? And are you logged in as administrator, normal user or guest when it happens?
5. Does this happen of both of your PC's? Can you get it working on another PC (family, friend, work)?

And just for info: why do you follow a Word 2003 course? That program is 9 years old. Why not a Word 2010 course?
