Win XP Dual Monitor- 2nd monitor keeps disabling

At church I use an older Dell running Windows XP to display video, lyrics, verses, and graphics during services. I use Media Shout 3.5 along with Power Point for the services as well as several other programs. Recently the secondary monitor has been disabling itself upon shutdown. When I power up the computer, the monitor is disabled. I can usually reset it to dual screens. Today I couldn't. It recognized that the 2nd Hitachi was attached but after enabling it, it would disappear again.

Has anyone else experience a similar problem? Was it software or hardware failure? ARG!

Running Windows 7 on a dual monitor setup.

Yesterday the 2nd monitor just went blank. I tried various tests but it wouldn't work. The LED light on the front of the monitor shows green when setup as a dual monitor, but orange, (stand by), when that setup is removed, so I know data is getting through.

I've concluded the monitor has failed and have ordered a new one.
