i recently restarted my laptop to complete an update for my blackberry desktop software installation.
everything was working fine before the restart- after the restart, my USB wireless network wouldn't connect to my home network (usually does this automatically) so i unplugged it and plugged it back in, and windows wouldn't recognize it.
since then i've noticed that my USB ports don't appear to be functioning properly- whatever i plug in to any ports, windows doens't detect.
the wireless adapter shows up under device manager, but if i try unintalling it (or removing it using the icon for removeable devices in the system tray) it doesn't get uninstalled/removed, and device manager crashes when trying to do the uninstall.
i've also noticed that windows won't completely shut down or restart now- it gets past the "Windows shutting down" message then stays at a blue background (not a BSOD) until i hold the power button down to turn off the laptop.
after researching this a bit, i've tried uninstalling the USB host controller drivers (USB root hub) from device manager, but again device manager crashes in the process.
anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing these issues?
i'm using windows xp pro, sp3 with the latest windows updates.
thanks!
