Win XP - Performance monitoring during login process

Hi All,

We are experiencing slow logins at random on different machines (Laptops / PCs) over a network.What is causing it we are unable to detect it.

Can we turn on some logging process or use an application which captures system activity with timestamp to identify which process (login script or a network scan etc.) takes longer time?

If it's over a network and thus likely some sort of an active directory domain or similar, that would probably be the first place to look. Especially if you're using roaming profiles. Odds are you're just experiencing good old fashioned network congestion with a lot of people logging in at more or less the same time, and jamming the network cables, possibly overloading the domain controller a little as well.

In either case, you'd probably want to start your search at the other end. Server as opposed to client.
