How do I get rid of Trojan virus?

Hi,

My computer is infected with a Trojan. I have been using AVG free and it obviously didn't stop it from entering, and it can't remove it. How can I get rid of it? I tried running AVG in safe mode, but it's still there. Hopefully this is the correct forum for this question. If not, please suggest another forum. Thanks. Ed.
