Windows XP won't recognize computers names and workgroup.

I have a problem with an Windows XP machine.
It won't enter the workgroup (it says I might not have permissions to access it).
I cannot open or ping the computers in the workgroup using their names. If I ping them in cmd/open them in explorer using their ip addresses I can see them.
I also don't have the microsoft network/entire network icons too. I restarted Computer Browser/Server/Workstation services with no luck. I don't have antivirus or firewall enabled even the Windows one. The problem must be entirelly in the OS itself. I previously didn't had a mark on "Use simple TCP/IP"(located in network services from add/remove windows components) because it wanted system files which where missing from the OS. I made even a repair on the computer but still cannot see the workgroup/computes names. The other computers in the network don't have this problem and they are around 30 computers.

Workgroups on XP Pro are limited to about 10 connections before you see rejections like this. You said there are 30.

I wonder if the person who created this network can help you with this limit by having someone logout so you can get on? Then again this could be a DOMAIN and for that, there is something entirely different to do.

And if it is a Workgroup, the most common mistake is folk forgetting to create accounts on the other machines. Let's say your account name is JACK. Can you as JACK go to the machine that you want to connect to and on that machine (not across the network) log on as JACK? That machine may not know JACK!

It is not a permission/limit problem.

Not being able to see icons for "Microsoft Networks" & "Entire Network" indicate a problem with the OS. The problem is not related so much with permissions. More than 10 computers can browse the network. All of them can except only this one. The problem is like not having DNS(dynamic name service) but having internet. You can see sites typing their IP addresses but not typing their names. But we are talking about local network and not internet.
The problem happens with two seperated workgroups so it isn't permissions issue sad. Not firewall, not antivirus. It is just the Operating System - I am sure of it.

I agree and there are discussions about that. I read your first post and I can't see where you shared this issue.

So the good news is that issue is discussed. Let's find one.

Remember this is only one of the dozen issues today with this. And I hope I can help but somehow I missed that the control panel was blank. That would have changed my reply.
