I have an HP Compaq dc7600 computer that I used Sunday and it worked fine. When I was through I turned off the computer. Today I tried to use the computer and it won't boot.
When you turn the computer on a blue screen with HP appears. At the bottom it has F9, F10, F12.
After a moment the screen goes blank and a small grey box appears momentarily and then the computer goes back to the blue screen. This occurs over and over and the computer will not boot.
What could cause this? Thanks.

That BLUE SCREEN could have clues.

But if there is no clues to be had except this I'd pull the hard drive out so we can save their files later.
Now put in a new blank hard drive, install the OS from the restore media and let them have their old HDD in some USB enclosure.

Well, I have a HD in SATA 0, and a 500 GB HD in SATA 1. The 500 GB has most of my programs and downloaded file converter and file repair programs on it.
But there are some programs on the primary HD that I need to recover. But the blue screen looks like it did when it would boot. Nothing different that could be a hint that I saw was different.
If you think that the primary HD has goine bad, is there a way to recover the needed files and programs that are on the primary HD and install them on the replacement HD? Thanks.
Or there is a clue on the blue screen.

For example some errors tell me that the BIOS needs to be set in IDE emulation mode. But that clue is not here.
As to the recovery, no system I know of recovers programs. Files? Yes.
