Windows XP Professional Keeps restarting after a blue screen

Hi

This is my first post here on Cnet ,although i have a major problem in here , i have a dual boot PC with windows xp professional with service pack 3 and ubuntu 11.10 on it , it was running good however 3 days back , there was a power cut when i was starting the windows , after 2-3 hours when i tried to start the windows again it showed me a prompt do you want to start the windows normally,safe mode etc..i tried with every option but there was no progress the system would continue showing the Windows XP logo and the progress bar but then automatically restarts ,although ubuntu which is installed as an application runs with no problems ,any suggestions on making windows xp runs well ,i have got a lots of data is that possible via ubuntu to retrive that data.

When every option in the Safe Mode list fails then your options are limited.

It's great that you have Ubuntu installed as dual boot as that will allow you to copy out all of your personal data, but as for XP it either needs a repair install or a full reinstall.

A repair install should preserve personal data but you can never be sure, so I would use Ubuntu before hand to copy those files off.

A reinstall will wipe the install clean and perform a full install.

One thing to watch out for though. If Ubuntu was installed last then it might have replaced XP's bootloader, the boot.ini file, with its own grub loader. A repair install or a full reinstall is likely to replace UBuntu's boot loader with XP's own boot.ini, and that will make Ubuntu unbootable.
