Windows XP forum: chip set listed twice in 'System'

and my technical knowledge isn't good, but what you are saying isn't clear.

The motherboard chipset isn't displayed under the "Display Adapter" settings in the Device Manager, but instead you will find them under "System devices"; eg for Intel chipset do this;

Open Device Manager using the steps listed for your operating system.

Windows Vista: click Start > click Control Panel > click System and Maintenance > click Device Manager

Windows XP: click Start > click Control Panel > double-click the System icon > click the Hardware tab > click Device Manager

Click the sign to expand the System devices entry.

Look for the chipset name in a string similar to the following: "Intel(R) 955X Memory Controller Hub - 2774". In this example, the chipset is an Intel(R) 955X Express Chipset.

Or you can use Intel's Chipset Identification Utility by completing the options here;

Also, as far as I know, Intel do not make display adapters, (video/graphic cards),

Also, Ethernet cards are listed under "Network Adapters".

Is this computer a dual-processor system? If so, that is why you see two processors listed.

Does the Device Manager show any problems with what it displays, eg yellow triangles or similar? If not, then all devices are working properly.

I still have that chip set listed twice under display adapters.Could I delete one.What the heck could it be if not the motherboard chipset?I don't have a video card but I did try to put one in once but it wouldn't fit in the chassis.
Under system devices I found Intel(R) 82801GB SMBus controller- 27DA, Intel(R) 82801 PCI bridge-244E, and Intel(R) 8202 firmware hub device.None of these are listed twice so I don't think there is a problem there.
Under system>general it just lists one processor.It doesn't say dual core.Also, when we took the processor out to try a different one there was only one there.If I had a dual processor wouldn't there be two? So i don't think its a dual processor system.Would it be safe to delete one of the two identical processor listings?I intend to reapply the heat transfer paste when I get some.
There are no yellow triangles or similar warnings.
Do you think any of the multiple listings I mentioned are interfering with each other?I figure if I have two or more of the same that my system might be trying to use both at once but when I think these things are listed under hardware that there can't really be duplicates since I didn't put two of any hardware into the system but maybe some of it is software and can be on the hard drive more than once.

It is proper for devices to be listed twice so I won't write long about that. As to your CPU comment, it might list twice if the OS or someone installed a "CPU driver".

All this is much too close to talk about the real problem you want to discuss. It's like talking about neutrons when you want a glass of water.
