Connect Desktop to TV

My Monitor does not work, and My T.V is kind of braking down.
If I get a new LCD or Plasma TV with VGA Input, Is there a way to connect a desktop to that directly as my Monitor does not work I cannot see what is on the screen. So the only video output on the computer will be connected to the TV. Is this a good option and will it work. Or should I buy a monitor as well?

Well... Will it work is yes, is it a good option... Probably not. TVs tend not to make for the best monitors, though they can certainly function as such in a pinch. At the very least I would get a monitor in addition, but if you only have money for one or the other, you'll have to decide whether you want the general responsiveness of monitors, or the ability to also watch TV.

Yes, you can connect the desktop to the TV. Read the following:

Please consider that a pc to tv connection is great for watching movies and playing video games, however it is not optimal for doing work, email or general web surfing (in my opinion). It is kind of hard to explain, however the first time you try any of those things using a tv as a monitor, you'll know what I am talking about.

If when I connect the pc to the tv... there is no display or the resolution needs to be changed, how will I do that, as the monitor does not work.
It is temporary, The comp. is quite slow and no one in my house uses it. I need it to get email addresses of it and couple of other things and that it is. The computer has not been touched for ages. I think the monitor got damaged in the 22 February Earthquake here. It came of the table and was upside down on the floor with the cables plugged in. (It was 6.3 magnitude)
so yea, I want need the comp apart from that
