installing a newer version of windows messenger

I want to download and install the latest windows messenger.I wanted to uninstall the version I have now first(version 4.7) but its not in my add/remove programs list and there is no uninstall from the start menu.If I download and install the newest version will it just replace the one I have automatically? Thank you

If that fails then and only then would I consider use of say REVO UNINSTALLER.

If you need an authoritative answer, you need to call the software's author.

windows messenger show up in add/remove program

window XP hides some system software like Windows massenger...but you can remove by these steps-


you said that this is not showing in add/remove program.
Navigate to C:'WINDOWS'inf (substituting the correct drive letter for your version of Windows) and open sysoc.inf.

You will see like that -
"msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7"

Change this to the following and Windows Messenger will appear in Add or Remove Programs, then Add/Remove Windows Components, then, and you can remove it for good:

"msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,7"

Now you can remove it by go to the Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel
