Windows XP forum: No desktop icons, no taskbar

No desktop icons, no taskbar

Please help me with this. This morning I turned on my PC and there was no desktop icons (just one stats.php-id_n2v....which was not there before), or taskbar, just wallpaper. I tried to open task manager with ctrl+alt+del but no luck. I can right click on desktop and make shortcut, make new folder but I can not open it. I can delete it. Show desktop icons is checked.
I started my PC in safe mode, and all my files are there.
I also restored my PC to a previous point and still nothing. Just wallpaper with that one icon.
Please help me. I tried to find a solution online, but every solution includes access to task manager with ctrl+alt+del, which I can not access.

You didn't tell enough about safe mode.

But there is an enduring problem with CORRUPT PROFILES that matches this symptom. Upper case text like this is so you can research this on google.

I'd try safe mode again then create a new user account and log into the new account as a test.
