Manage updates with the Download App
I have installed MS Security Essentials on my laptop and have activated the Windows firewall. All other firewall, anti-virus, etc have been removed from the system. Every time that I power on the laptop, I now get an error message that indicates that my Windows Firewall has shut down and that my system is at risk. I can then go in and manually reactivate the firewall, but the next time I shut down and power up the system, the same problem reoccurs.
I have run Malwarebytes and done both a quick and complete scan -- and have also run Superantispyware to remove any potential contributing malware. I found a few items which I removed -- but nothing seem to have been the root of the issue nor has their removal corrected the problem.
The Windows XP Professional software on the laptop is up to date.
I can't think of anything else I can do to correct this problem. Any suggestions?

Yes, that's what I'll do if I can't get to the bottom of the Windows firewall issue. However, I'm concerned that the problem may be one that will repeat itself with other products -- so was hoping to solve it with Windows.

if the corresponding Service is disabled.
The Windows Firewall (SP2 and later) needs the "Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)" Service enabled and set to Automatic.
To check your Services, goto Start > Run, type in services.msc and click OK. In the new Window look for the Service above and double click the entry to display the Properties. Ensure the Service is set to Automatic and then Start it if required.

I should have mentioned in my original note that I'd already done this. The MS Services shows the firewall as "on" and in "automatic" mode. That's what's weird about this...it appears to be properly configured, yet continually shuts off each time this system is powered off.
