can't connect to internet after installing Win XP

Hey all, this is crazy. i had a PC in Win XP...it's an older PC but still running ok. The only problem was the HD was too small. So I swapped out the HD and installed Win XP SP2 on that one. I still had the Windows Installation disc that came w the PC.
When Windows was done installing it seemed like it was ok but now I can't connect to the internet. I have the Ethernet plugged in and i can see the yellow lights at the Ethernet port so it seems like i have a connection. Also the icon in the Task Bar says i'm connected...
1394 Connection
Speed 400.0 Mbps
Status:Connected
Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's driving me crazy.
TIA
Ted
