Shortcut Icons do not open website

When I click on my desktop icons they open an incomplete, but usable, browser window but not the website that they are attached to--any suggestions? I am using Windows XP and Internet Explorer

Your post seems to say the issue with IE is now fixed. You created new URL web shortcuts from IE and placed them on your Desktop, then closed down IE, clicked on any of the new shortcuts then they opened those same web sites.

Is that correct? if so, what are these others you mention? Different browsers' shortcuts?

That is not quite what happens. When I click on an commercial icon (i.e. - my bank's website shortcut icon) the IE website comes up but is incomplete and appears as it is searching for the bank's website but never finds it. The others my bank, my e-mail, other commercial websites, etc.

If not you might give it a try.

1. Right click the desktop
2. Select New from the context menu then Shortcut in the flyout menu
3. Type in the complete URL to your bank or wherever such as http://www.mybank.com
4. click the Next button and then type the name for the shortcut (eg. My Bank )
5. Click Finish
6. double click the new shortcut and fill us in on the results.

That didn't work but it appears that it corrected itself when I changed my default browser to IE. Thanks for you help.
