Hi ThereI hope you can help me. Every time I go to put my computer in standby now I am getting a message to turn off my computer so that important updates can be installed. I turn the computer off only to get the message again a short time later. I am suspicious that this is the same update which is failing to install and trying over again. I think it is the Bing Bar 7.0 KB2626808 as I have received messages that this failed to install. I don't even want this anyway. How can I sort this without turning off the automatic updates

In IE, go to Tools>Windows update and tell it to forget about this particular update. It lets you block individual updates this way, and that's exactly what you need.
While in Windows update you can view the installation history also.This should confirm your thoughts about this updated repeatedly failing.

At first I thought that the Bing Toolbar wouldn't have updated through Windows Update, but I see I am wrong about that;

Do you have the Bing toolbar installed anyway? If so and you don't need it, you can uninstall it according to that Microsoft notice though the Control Panel > Add/Remove programs.
If you do try that, I would then suggest you reboot, (restart), the computer afterwards. This updates the registry and the system files and hopefully this will remove the need for Windows Update to offer it to you.
