I did get the chipset drivers for the board and "freshened" them up but as for the new OS I am in the dark there as a friend let me have that on a disk, and I just ran it and activated it. I just thought I could put in a new OS and it would just work with the board.
I suppose given the age of the machine and the sorting to it is going to need I might as well leave as is and he will have to use the old version with all the clutter, as he is on a pension and cannot afford a better machine.
I did think of sticking in an adapter card to see if that worked and just stay away from the school stuff. Or just formatting the drive / replacing it - stick the new OS in and hope for the best.
Sorry you fellows I am not terribly savvy with this stuff and well I suppose I could probably help him out by doing a simple build if it is going to take a while for me to do that, and that is going to take a while to do.
Anyway thanks for your time and patience we do appreciate it and am sorry for being a bit of a no brainer for have sort of wasted it a bit.:-$
