PLAYING VIDEO DVD-R ON WIN PC WHERE DVD WAS BURNED ON MAC PC

My son burned a ton of family photos onto a DVD-R on his Mac laptop and sent it to me.I put the DVD into my DVD drive on my Windows PC and it wont run..wont start...nothing..cant get it to open up. I ran a DVD movie on my DVD drive to make sure the drive was working properly...no problem.
My son seems to think the problem is due to his having burned the DVD on a Mac and my trying to run it on a Windows Pc. I find that hard to believe or understand.I know the DVD was properly burned because i ran it on my son's Mac and viewed all of the contents before trying it on mine.

Can anyone tell me what the problem is and how to solve it, or refer me to somewhere i might be able to find a solution?Thank you very much.

Do you get any error message when clicking on the disk in explorer? Were these individual photos or a slide show? If individual pictures, do you know what file format was used?

Since I can create DVDs that won't play on my PC too my thought here is that more is needed to be told about the media and how it was made.

-> On the apple I'd stick to a single closed ISO 9660 DVDs if I'm tossing them to others. Saves lots of time for everyone.
