Windows XP forum: Explorer Always Stops on Sunday

Windows XP Home, Sp 3, all updates.For the past few months I have been trying to fix a problem which only happens on Sunday.Each Sunday morning, when I start the computer it works fine. Then, when I shut down and start up again or restart the computer locks up at the desktop. No messages. Folders will open, but nothing will execute. When Task Manager is opened, nothing in particular shows, but the taskbar disappears and the only way to start it again is to do a hard restart. The computer will stay locked up after reboots until restored with Acronis. Safe Mode works OK. The mystery to me is that if Explorer is corrupted in Windows, why not in Safe Mode? Apparently something in Windows starts on a Sunday and keeps running when Windows is started, thereafter. Recently I discovered that exefix_xp.com, when copied to the desktop got things going again, but I will have to wait a week to find out if it works again. But that's not a fix. If whatever is running and stopping Explorer, why doesn't it "recorrupt" after exefix_xp.com?I have been working with msconfig, Startup Delayer, ShellxView and Codestuff Starter to try to stop functions during startup but have had no luck so far. These programs give somewhat different results, so it is difficult to decide which to stay with because anything I try takes a week to find out if it works. I have also used Ccleaner and chkdsk with no results.Acronis will get me running for another week.I've looked through all the software that I can find which updates on Sunday. I found a couple and stopped them but it didn't help.I use Avast! and have run AdAware, Spybot, AVG and Malwarebytes but found nothing.My theory is that "something" happens on a Sunday which corrupts Explorer, and Explorer will remain corrupted until fixed.It has occurred to me to locate every file listed in msconfig, Startup Delayer, ShellxView and Codestuff Starter which has not been stopped and try running it to see if it will stop Explorer, but that's a big task and I don't know if this is a good idea or not.There's something else which may or not be related. Once in a while (every few days or so) I will get a message that says "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close". After checking that away nothing else happens and Explorer continues to work OK.I would appreciate any suggestions which will help me put a stop to this very annoying problem.Thank you.
