Windows XP forum: I'm Having a REALLY HARD TIME /Drivers on a Dell Dim.2400

That model dell used to come with a supplemental CD with the drivers. Also, you have the SERVICE TAG which is used at dell.com to find the drivers for this machine.

It appears you may not be using the usual two driver solutions.

I don't have a CD. so that's not an option, but I am considering getting one.

As for the Dell Site, and the Drivers, I have used the site and I have found it difficult to understand how to use the Download manager/ With Internet Explorer and Firefox, etc.

Since I can't connect to the net, I use other computers, like at the library and a frineds laptop, etc.

They use xp with SP3 . But at the Dell Site, it tell me that I must download the Download Manager, and I must install NET Framework first, which I had.

When I download the Drivers,it tells me that the download is completed, and I look in the downloads Foler and I see an Icon Dell Download Manager.

Now, am I supposed to transfer the Folder/File to a Flash and put it in the Dell? Because when I do, I think it gives me the message that it can't open the file because it need to know the (Program?/File ) that created it and asks if I want to use the net to find the file? Which I can't....

If I try to open the Download on the Computer I downloaded it on; it tells me to go to the Divers to Download them.

As I have Installed 5 manually, and one with the internet's help, it leaves me with 2 more;
Ethernet Controller, and;
PCI Input. neither of which the net will install. automatically.

I don't know where the Drivers are located in the Drivers Sections on the Dell Site?:

Also I'm not sure what Categories they fall into and the Order they sould be Installed:

So can I hopefully istall them manually? Do I have to start over and reinstall them in the Correct Order? Or is there some other solution: Like the CD.

I just order a recovery CD for the Driver from the Bay. Hopefully that will fix it. Less than $9.00

The link for the Drivers on the Dell Site was the one I got when I entered my Service Tag #2211L31, and it loads up to the page with just one Driver Update, and then I have to click on the link below for All Dimension 2400 and 73 Drivers, and that's what I find difficult to sort through and match up.

Thanks for the clarification of the Drivers, and the process of installing them, which I wasn't sure of.

I may have to start over if the CD doesn't fix the problems.
