My hard drive is being continuously accessed.

Windows XP, version 5.1.2600 (Service Pack 3).
From the moment I boot in XP the hard disk is being continuously accessed, and never stops until I turn off the machine. I notice it by the noise the drive does and by the red LED continuously blinking.
I have pressed Cntl+Alt+Del and have began to kill all processes I could, but the disk was still accessed. How could I know which is the process or program responsible for this action? Perhaps some program for monitoring disk activity could be of help here. I don't know. Please notice this happens every time I turn on the machine, provided I choose to boot XP (I have some other operating systems on the hard). Could somebody suggest a course of action? Thanks in advance.
