Windows XP forum: to delete search history

I downloaded and installed the Google toolbar. When I am using IE, the Google toolbar shows up and I can clear the Google IE search history by clicking the Google icon and clicking clear search history on the resulting menu.

But the Google toolbar isnt there when I am using Firefox and when I use Google in Firefox the Google Firefox search history is still there.

So how can I clear out the Google Firefox search history?

When Im using Firefox, I can sometimes clear Google search history by holding down the Shift key, then clicking the down arrow and then clicking delete to remove a single entry, or if I just hold the down key down it sometimes will scroll down and clear all of the Google entries one by one. But for some reason this doesnt always work; I guess Im sometimes doing something wrong but I cant tell what since I am following the same procedure I use when it does work. But Im assuming there is a quicker way to do this.

Isnt there?

I had the same problem with Google using Firefox. Try this - when the Google history list appears - place the mouse arrow over the first item on the list, then press both the Ctrl and Shift key at the same time, then press the ''delete'' key. It should rapidly delete down through your history list until everything is gone.

I followed the directions above but not in firefox. All I did was go to google.com and click on the search box. Once the drop-down menu opened and the first search in history was highlighted I pressed the shift key and then the delete key. The highlighted entry then deleted. I then held down both the shift and delete key and it started to delete all the entries one at a time until all were deleted.

Brilliant. Why didn't I think of that???

as the "G" situated next to the address bar is a mini
"google tool bar" your reccomendation won't clear (for example) the search history of google if accessed via google.com

As for the Google searchbar in IE, if you clear the search history, that works fine for now, but the history will build itself up again, forcing you to clear it on a regular basis (if you're trying to prevent your mom or wife from seing porn porn porn, when looking for a pie recipe). A better solution is to go to "Options" on the Google dropdown, and then to the "More" tab where you can un-click "Save the search history across browser sesions." Problem solved.

Let me know which pie receipe is best. I think PORN is something they used to play records on ie. Pornograph or maybe it is a Horn for a Porsche or perhaps a description of when it is really raining hard in the Ozarks ie. "it's just Porn cats and dogs"

Disable Recent Documents History


Normally when you open or access a document or file it is added to the list of recent documents on the Start Menu. This tweak will stop files from being added to the list.

Open your registry and find the key below.

Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value called 'NoRecentDocsHistory' set the value to equal '1' to enable the restriction.

Exit your registry, you may need to restart for the changes to take effect.


Registry Settings
User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer]

System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\

Value Name: NoRecentDocsHistory
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = disable restriction, 1 = enable restriction)

If you do DL Tweal UI, when you open it go to the left column and click the + in front of "Taskbar" then click " XP Start Menu" That's where you find the place to control the most recent item's. Sparky
