Setting up wireless connection for new computter question

I have a Desktop pc which has WinXP home edition OS and does NOT have an internal wireless feature.I just bought a Netbook pc with Win7 Starter OS which does have an internal wireless adapter. I want to buy a USB wireless adapter for my DESKTOP PC so i can hook up the netbook wireless hardware and my roadrunner isp connection .
I have been searching for a usb wireless adapter and note a lot of them are only compatible with Win OSs up through XP, not Win 7.Since the adapter i need is for my XP Desktop will that work to connect the wireless setup with the Netbook Win7Starter Os, or do i need to buy a Win 7 compatible adapter for the older desktop?

I have a Linksys wireless broadband router hooked up between my desktop pc and Roadrunner.

Thanks for any help on this.

that work with Windows 7. Probably it depends on the product in question if the driver already is present or comes with it on CD or downloadable. When it doubt: ask the sales person in the shop.

An alternative for a USB adapter is an Ethernet adapter. Gnerally, those come with an antenna that you can position on a place that has a better reception than where the USB thing on your PC is. So I would prefer such a one. And probably it's plug and play without any driver needed.
