Sony PC cuts off randomly

My husband thinks that it is the power supply
Could it be the processor?

Well,
here is what it can be, it really depends on when it cuts off,
is it at the initial boot, is it after an hour, is it when you are online, is it when you go to print, is it... there are about 20 things i can think of off the top of my head with these issues.

1. Power supply, if the machine starts, but shuts off at random points or will shut down almost imediately after turning it on.
2. Processor, typically it is due to heat, processor will kick the machine off due to the thermal paste grounding out the heat sink.
3. Motherboard, heat related issues, bad capacitors.
4. system memory, bad stick of ram


This one is my favorite though, hysterical as it sounds.

If you use a power strip, and go to print and the machine cuts off, it is due to the power strip draw from the printer...

It's cheap to free to get your yearly cleaning done. And it can be the cause.
